Top 5 Tips When Finding a Daycare or Boarding facility

    1. Ask vets nearby as they will hear about injury reports and safety concerns regarding facilities in the area.

    2. Dogs under six months of age should never be left at a free range facility. In all facilities, dogs should be separated by size and activity level.

    3. The staff should allow potential clients to tour the facility. Plan ahead as some locations require appointments or offer tours during designated times only.

    4. All dogs need some down time. Free range facilities that encourage dogs to play all day (and night) create a “high play stamina” which leads to inappropriate play behavior when they aren't at day care. The lack of structure also creates a dangerous situation when some dogs become tired, but other dogs aggressively want to play.

    5. Trust your instincts. If you don’t feel comfortable with the people or the facility, do not use them.

    Last, but not least

Now that the warmth of summer is here, be sure your dog doesn't overheat! To do so, give your dog plenty of water. Try adding a few ice cubes in the water dish for added coolness. And, never leave your dog in a car alone, even just for a few minutes. In the same way that you should take it easy on a hot day, your dog also should keep physical activities to a minimum. This is not something they will do naturally as dogs often continue to play even when they are approaching exhaustion. As a compromise, try to be more active early in the morning or late in the evening. Your pup will thank you for it!
